Equipment Needed to Make Oat Waffles

This is a pretty foolproof recipe, and it only takes a few minutes to prep! First of all, get your oats ready. I used sprouted rolled oats for this recipe, as the rolled oats worked better than instant oatmeal. There is no need to separate the wet ingredients and dry ingredients, the waffle batter can be mixed all together in a large bowl.

You’ll also need your waffle maker out! I used a Belgian waffle maker for deep delicious pockets in my waffles. The waffle maker got these waffles super crisp on the outside and warm and chewy in the middle.

If you don’t have a waffle maker, you can use this batter to make pancakes! A reader commented they do this all the time, and the pancakes turn out great.

How to Make This Oat Flour Waffle Recipe

  1. Make the Oat Flour: add the rolled oats directly into a high-speed blender or food processor. Blend or process for 2 minutes until the oats have transformed into a fine flour.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add the oats, almond milk, coconut oil, maple syrup. In a separate dish mix the flaxseeds with an equal amount of water and allow that to sit for 1 minute. Add the flax mixture to the bowl along with the vanilla extract, baking powder, and salt. Mix well to combine.
  3. Turn on your waffle maker, and set it to a medium-to-high setting (I used a 4 out of 5 on mine). Pour the appropriate amount of batter into the waffle maker, and cook until your machine lets you know the waffles are ready. These crispy oat flour waffles should be golden brown and have crispy edges.
  4. Serve immediately, and top with a drizzle of maple syrup and your favorite fruit, enjoy!
